About pain management

What Pain Management Is

Pain management is medical care focused on finding out why you hurt and treating it. It is led by a physician, who can examine you, order tests, and offer medical treatments when they make sense for you.

It helps with both sudden pain from an injury and pain that has hung on for months. Dr. Ferrer specializes in nonsurgical pain relief, and because physical therapy, chiropractic care, occupational therapy, and acupuncture are under the same roof, your treatment can be coordinated in one place.

What Pain Management Care Can Include

Your plan is built around what Dr. Ferrer finds at your evaluation. Depending on your needs, it may include:

Medical evaluation

A review of your history, a physical exam, and diagnostic testing when needed to pinpoint where your pain is coming from.

Injections and nerve blocks

Targeted procedures Dr. Ferrer may recommend after your evaluation when they fit your condition. They are one option, not a given.

Medication management

If medication is part of your plan, Dr. Ferrer chooses it carefully, checks how it is working, and adjusts it at follow-up visits.

Medical acupuncture

Dr. Ferrer is certified in medical acupuncture and may include it in your plan as a nonsurgical option alongside other care.

Pain Management FAQ

Still have a question? Call us and a member of our team will help.

Will I need injections?

Not necessarily. Injections and nerve blocks are options Dr. Ferrer may recommend only if your evaluation shows they fit your condition. Many plans focus on other treatments, and you always decide together.

Will I have to take medication?

Not always. Medication is one tool Dr. Ferrer may use if it makes sense for you. Your plan may instead center on therapy, acupuncture, or a procedure, or combine a few of these.

Is a pain management procedure painful?

You may feel some pressure or brief discomfort. Before any procedure, Dr. Ferrer explains what you may feel during and after it, and you can ask questions at any point.

How is this different from physical therapy or chiropractic care?

Dr. Ferrer is a medical doctor, so he can evaluate your pain medically, order tests, and offer medical treatments. He works with our therapists and chiropractor so all of your care fits together.

How long until I feel better?

It depends on what is causing your pain and which treatments are in your plan. Dr. Ferrer will tell you what to expect and check your progress at each follow-up visit.

Do you accept insurance?

Yes. We accept most major plans, including Medicare, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Aetna, Cigna, and UnitedHealthcare, and we verify your benefits before your first visit. Call (908) 282-3737 and we will check your coverage.
